At times the characters became interesting but mainly they were stereotypes and events were overemphasised for humour so they became unrealistic. When I first finished the book, I wondered a lot about whether it was a 5-star read. There's also divorce, bullying, a cancer scare, a suicide, but these are as nothing against the real drama.

The book seems to have garnered a fair few good reviews and I am at a loss as to why. The story follows a school year as they go through their own individual dramas and the pecking order at school gets shuffled. When a new — unmarried — headmaster arrives and explains that savage cuts have to be made, vill explode with good ideas to raise money.
